WHO I HELP:
I’m Kitzia Lopez, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT-S) and the founder of North City Counseling.
My primary expertise lies in Parenting Support and Child-Centered Play Therapy, where I hold certification as a Certified Child-Centered Play Therapist (CCPT). However, my skills and qualifications extend beyond working solely with parents and children. I also counsel pre-teens, teens, emerging adults, couples, and families in navigating the complexities of home, school, and community life.
I am fluent in Spanish and I take pride in fostering an open and inclusive environment for anyone seeking bilingual counseling services.
With over 10 years of experience, I’ve provided mental health counseling and parent education in diverse settings including: Keller Independent School District, Dallas Independent School District, The Parenting Center in Fort Worth, and Pacific Clinics in California. These roles have deepened my understanding of the unique challenges faced by families, allowing me to tailor my therapeutic approach to meet their specific needs.
I am trained in a range of evidence-based practices including: Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), Child-Parent Relationship Play Therapy (CPRT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My expertise in these approaches enables me to provide comprehensive and research-backed support.
I am a wife (of 11 years), mother (ages 7 and 10), and dog mom ( 5-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, I cherish moments of togetherness with family—whether it’s sharing meals, exploring nature with our dog, or engaging in activities that nurture my family’s individual and collective health.
As a wife and mother, I deeply understand the challenges of balancing family life with a career. These personal experiences inform my counseling practice and drive my commitment to helping clients find resilience and connection in their own lives. My approach is one of empathy and providing an open and trusting environment that is conducive to helping my clients work through their deepest struggles and challenges.
At North City Counseling, we are guided by three core values: compassion, empowerment, and collaboration.
Through these values, we create a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals feel heard, valued, and empowered to make positive changes in their lives. Our commitment to compassion, empowerment, and collaboration guides our practice and helps us deliver high-quality, client-centered care.
We value compassion which involves empathy and understanding toward individuals experiencing mental health challenges. It emphasizes kindness, warmth, and a non-judgmental attitude in interactions with clients.
We empower clients to take charge of their well-being and recovery. This includes promoting self-awareness, self-efficacy, and personal growth.
We place value on collaboration among mental health professionals, patients, & families. Collaborative care involves shared decision-making and treatment coordination between provider and client.
